| 1.* Why and How should I prepare the soil? |
Preparing of the soil is necessary to bring it in excellent condition for your new plants..
2-3 or even better 4-6 weeks before you are going to plant, you have to prepare the soil by digging it about 30 cm deep and turn the soil. Soil that just has being digged seems thicker than the a rounding soil this is because there are air pockets. When planting on fresh digged soil the roots may come in contact with that air and the plant will not come to full potential..
Also when planting in rainy and wet weather should be avoided. Stepping on loose wet soil will make it lose al its air the soil becomes to hard..
A good prepared soil is light and crumbled, and its easier to plant..
Mixing Compost or Turf in the soil while digging makes a good foundation for the plants..
On Sandy soil you also can mix some Bentoniet , it lets the soil hold more water and you do not need to give more fertilizer. |

| 2.* How to plant roses in pot and with bare roots? |
Bare root roses can be planted from October until April.
Pot roses can be planted at any time.
It is best not to plant when there is snow or when the soil is frozen.
Bare root roses are planted as follows.
Place the plants in a bucket of water. Mix some dirt in the water, it gives the plant a coating when planting in dry weather.
Make a hole in the ground where you would like to plant your roses of about 30 x 30 x30 cm. Work the soil on the bottom of the hole loose and mix some compost in it. Take a plant and prune al roots exceeding more then 25 cm. The twigs can also be pruned to 25 cm.
Place the plant in the hole and make sure that all the roots point downwards, also make sure that the grafting place is 5 cm lower then the normal surface height of your garden.
Take some fine crumbled dirt mixed with compost and fill the hole half. Make sure the plants sits nice and upright. Pres the dirt firmly with your foot and then fill the hole with the remaining dirt.
If necessary give the plant some water.
Pot roses are planted as follows.
Place the plants in a bucket with water and let rest for about 5 minutes.
Make a hole somewhat larger then the pot. Work the bottom of the hole loose an mix it with compost.
Take the plant out the pot by turning it upside down and give it a few taps. Mix some compost with the dirt that came out of the hole.
Place the plant in the hole and make sure that the grafting place is 5 cm below the normale surface. Fill the rest up with some fine crumbled dirt and pres firmly with you foot so that the plant can not be moved. Give The plant an bucket of water.
When planting in dry weather conditions give the plant some water on a regular basis until the plant is growing well.
On Sandy soil you will have to give some extra water.

| 3.* On what distance should I plant my roses? |
Miniature roses should be planted on a distance of 20 - 30 cm.
Floribunda and most small garden roses should be planted on a distance of 30 - 50 cm.
Groundcovers should be planted on a distance of 50 -80 cm.
Standard roses and Shrubs and most English roses should be planted on a distance of 90 cm.
Climbing roses and park roses should be planted at a distance of 1 - 2 meter.
Much depends on the variety and the growth habit of the plant. |

| 4.* How and when should I prune my roses? |
The best moment to prune your roses is in March- April, around 15 march is the best time. In colder climates they should be pruned end march begin April.
Climbing roses can be pruned from October to February .
There are 2 main reasons why you should prune your roses. The first is to create rejuvenation, the second is for ventilation.
All dead and diseased canes should be removed, look for 3-6 main twigs that should remain. All twigs that grow to the inside can be removed. All the little twigs should also be removed. The remaining main twigs should point to the outside.
Floribundas can be pruned to a height of 12 cm (3 buds), Miniature roses can be cut to 8 cm. Thee hybrids can be pruned to 15 cm ( 3-5 buds).
Climbers , keeps several main twigs which you can lead to the side and above. Al the side twigs can be pruned short 2-3 buds. Keep in mind that there should be always some main twigs low to the ground, that way you will have flowers at a normal height and not only at the top of the climber.
Old roses shrubs and park roses are something else it al depends on the variety. Some can be pruned like the thee hybrids others need to be pruned right after flowering and so on. |

| 5.* When , How and why should I give fertilizers? |
Roses that have been giving the right treatment and fertilizer are less susceptible to diseases.
In February- March you can give organic fertilizer for the first time. Use a fertilizer special created for roses. When the first flowers appear you give some more organic fertilizer. Or you can give some chemical fertilizer after the first blooming period Chemical fertilizer reacts immediately.
In September you can give Patent kali to harden the plant for the winter.

The most common diseases are Mildew, Black spot and rust.
Mildew appears in places where there can not freely circulate air, by moist weather and severe changes in temperature. It looks like a white powder on leaves and twigs.
Black spot appears when the leaves are most for more than 6 hours, on moist and wet summers. The leaves should dry as quickly as possible. It looks like small black spots on the leaves. They turn yellow and fall of.
Rust can be noticed when you see yellow spots in the middle of the leaves, when you turn those you leaves you can notice some orange dots they become black after some time. When not treated it can kill the plants.
Some plants are more susceptible for one or the other disease. Its is best to take care of these diseases before they appear. Treat the plant with products against those diseases every 3 to 4 weeks.
When the plants are sick and the symptoms appear you should remove the leaves affected with the disease and burn them. Tread the plant with the appropriate product every 4 to 7 days. Read the manual with the product.
